Council recently reviewed and updated its By-laws to reflect current laws and Council processes and fulfilling its obligation under Section 251 of the Local Government Act 1999, where it is a legislated requirement that Council reviews its By-laws every seven years.The current suite of By-laws will come into effect on 28 December 2025.
By-laws provide rules and governance and assist in providing convenient, safe, comfortable and inclusive space for its community.
Proposed By-law No. 1 – Mid Murray Council (Miscellaneous) Amendment By-law 2026 has been drafted to address errors and omissions identified in By-law No. 4 – Local Government Land.
The public is welcome to view the proposed By-law from Wednesday 26 November 2025 at Council Offices during normal office hours or the link located under Document Library.
Written submissions are invited on the draft Amendment By-law and can be received through the following means:

- Letter addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, Mid Murray Council, PO Box 28, Mannum SA 5238; or
- Email postbox@mid-murray.sa.gov.au.
Submissions will be received until 5pm Friday 19 December 2025.

To amend the Council’s Local Government Land By-law 2025 and for related purposes.
What has changed?
Amendment of Paragraph 3 – Interpretation
- Paragraph 3.1 – delete ‘;’ and insert after ‘fish’ ‘, but does not include a dog;’.
- Paragraph 4.19 – after ‘bird;’ insert, on a new line, ‘provided that sub-paragraphs 4.19.2 and 4.19.3 shall not apply to lawful fishing activities undertaken on local government land.’.
- Paragraph 9 – delete ‘5.6.2’ and insert ‘5.7.2’.
