Update - September 2025

A notice of making By-laws was published in the Government Gazette on 28 August 2025 and in newspapers circulating the Council district on 3 and 4 September 2025.

The By-laws have now been delivered to the Legislative Review Committee in conjunction with Legislative Review Committee Reports prepared by Council’s legal practitioner. The Legislative Review Committee will consider the By-laws and if it forms the opinion that any of the By-laws should be disallowed it must report the opinion and the grounds for this to both Houses of Parliament. The Legislative Review Committee will not report back to Council unless they have concerns in relation to any of the By-laws.

The By-laws will commence operation on 28 December 2025 being four (4) months from the date that they were published in the Government Gazette (unless disallowed by Parliament).

Update - August 2025

From 26 June 2025 and 18 July 2025 Council had invited the community and stakeholders to comment on the revised By-laws.

With 105 views and 108 downloads of the revised By-laws from the Your Say page, one (1) submission were received at the conclusion of the engagement period. A copy of the Submissions Summary Report is available in the Document Library.

The feedback was considered with no amendments deemed necessary to the revised By-laws.

The revised By-laws were presented to Council on 19 August 2025 for adoption, signalling the conclusion of this stage of the review.

Consultation - By-laws

Mid Murray Council is seeking feedback from the community on its reviewed and updated By-laws.

Council has reviewed and updated its By-laws to reflect current laws and Council processes and fulfilling its obligation under Section 251 of the Local Government Act 1999, where it is a legislated requirement that Council reviews its By-laws every seven years.

By-laws provide rules and governance and assist in providing convenient, safe, comfortable and inclusive space for its community.

The following By-laws have been reviewed:

  • By-law No. 1 – Permits and Penalties
  • By-law No. 2 – Moveable Signs
  • By-law No. 3 – Roads
  • By-law No. 4 – Local Government Land
  • By-law No. 5 – Dogs
  • By-law No. 6 – Cats
  • By-law No. 7 – Camping and Mooring

The public is welcome to view the revised By-laws from Thursday 26 June 2025 at Council Offices during normal office hours or the links located under Document Library.

Written submissions are invited on the By-laws and can be received through the following means –

Submissions will be received until 5pm Friday 18 July 2025.
