Update - August 2025

From 25 June 2025 and 25 July 2025 Council had invited the community and stakeholders to comment on the revised Plan and Policy.

With 167 views and 108 downloads of the revised Plan and Policy from the Your Say page, three (3) submissions were received at the conclusion of the engagement period. A copy of the Submissions Summary Report is available in the Document Library.

The feedback was considered with no amendments deemed necessary to the revised Plan and Policy.

The revised Plan and Policy were presented to Council on 19 August 2025 for adoption, signalling the completion of the review.

Consultation

Mid Murray Council is seeking feedback from the community on its reviewed and updated Light Management Plan – River Murray International Dark Sky Reserve and Dark Sky Policy.

The revised Plan and Policy ensure Council continues to lead in responsible lighting management, community education, and long-term protection of the region’s natural night sky. It also provides recommendations on the integration of smart technology provisions for improved control and measurement of lighting infrastructure. Smart lighting technology offers several benefits, including greater energy efficiency, reduced light spill, improved operational monitoring, and enhanced alignment with Council’s dark sky objectives.

The public is welcome to view the revised Plan and Policy from Wednesday 25 June 2025 at Council Offices during normal office hours or the links located under Document Library.

Written submissions are invited on the Plan and Policy and can be received through the following means –

Submissions will be received until 5pm Friday 25 July 2025.
