The Blanchetown planning area, located adjacent to the River Murray, consist of the following housing areas.

Blanchetown is the principal township of the area, located approximately 130 km from Adelaide along the Sturt Highway. It is home to Lock 1 the first of 13 locks and weirs constructed on the River Murray completed in 1922. The town offers scenic views from both the original Blanchetown Bridge, built in 1963, and the newer bridge, completed in 1998.

A popular tourist destination, Blanchetown is known for the historic Blanchetown Hotel, which features open rafters, original stonework, and an extensive collection of historic photographs. The town is also surrounded by a range of attractions that enhance its appeal as a holiday and houseboating destination, including riverside reserves such as Burke Salter Wines, Brookfield Conservation Park, and McBeans Pound. Residential and tourism-focused developments like Riverbanks Estate and nearby Shacksite Reserve further support the area’s role as a key recreational hub along the River Murray.
