The Swan Reach planning area, located along the mid-section of the River Murray, consists of the following housing areas.

Swan Reach was settled in 1899 and is a popular river shack and camping destination known for its panoramic views and peaceful riverside charm. The town comes alive during the summer months, drawing holidaymakers who are drawn to its natural beauty and relaxed atmosphere. A defining feature of the locality is its seven distinct shack areas, each nestled along the river and surrounded by striking cliffs, bushland, and open water. These scenic settings make the area an ideal location for shacks, where families and visitors can unwind, reconnect with nature, and enjoy the timeless appeal of life by the river.

The region is also rich in wildlife, with black swans, kangaroos, emus, echidnas, and the Southern Hairy-nosed Wombat South Australia’s State animal frequently spotted in the area. The Punyelroo Caves offer a unique attraction for tourists, adding to the area’s sense of adventure and natural wonder. Outdoor activities such as boating and skiing at Len White Reserve, fishing, and a round on the 9-hole golf course are all part of the Swan Reach experience. The town also offers free camping, quirky bric-a-brac stores, and a museum that showcases its history and community spirit.
